1. 개요
링링 예술대학교(Ringling College of Art and Design, RCAD)는 플로리다 사라소타에 위치한 사립예술학교이다. Ludd M. Spivey가 설립하였으며 1931년 Southern College의 하위 단과 대학으로 설립되었으나 1933년 분립하였다.2. 역사
Southern College의 미술 단과대학으로 1931학교가 설립되었다. 1933년 미술단과대학으로 분립하였고, 학교의 이름을 여러번 바꾸었다. Southern Association of Colleges and Schools에 의해 1979년 12월 11일에 학위수여가 인정되는 대학교로 인정 되었고. 1984년에 National Association of Schools of Art에 회원으로 가입하면서 인증을 받았다.3. 지위
링링은 3D 애니메이션으로 미국에서는 손에 꼽히는 애니메이션 학과를 보유한 학교이며 비교적 최근 급상승하기 시작하였다. 하지만, 이미 산업계에서는 이미 최상위권 대우를 받는다. 졸업생 중 상당한 인원이 O1-B 비자를 받는 경우를 심심치 않게 볼 수 있으며 O 비자의 경우 쿼터에 제한이 없기 때문에 다른 (BA, BS) 전공과는 다르게 빠른 취업이 가능하다. 연봉을 깍고 비자 스폰서쉽을 노려 볼 수 도 있다.애니메이션 계열의 유명한 학교로는 캘리포니아 예술학교(calarts), 서배너 칼리지 오브 아트 앤 디자인(SCAD) 스쿨 오브 비주얼 아츠(SVA)링링(Ringling) 아트 컬리지가 있으며, 사실상 애니메이션과는 이 학교 (Calarts, RCAD, SCAD, Ringling, SVA)가 주요하다. 디자인계열의 학과로 유명한 학교로는 아트 센터 디자인 대학교(ACCD)와, 프랫 인스티튜트, 로드아일랜드 디자인 스쿨(RISD) 등이 있다.
우리나라에서는 한국예술종합학교, 서울예술대학교와 협력학교를 체결하였으며, 디자인과 미디어 아트부문에서의 지위가 급상승 하고있다. 미국 내에서의 지위는 이미 최상위권에 위치한다. #

4. 수업
한 수업에는 무조건 15명의 학생이 한 반으로 수업을 듣는것이 원칙이며 이 때문에 전과는 물론 전학을 오는것도 쉽지 않다. 내가 가고자 하는 과에 나간 학생이 생겨야 하기 때문이다. (애니메이션 과로는 전과가 불가능 하며, C-이하를 한번 받는 순간 영원히 바이바이라고 봐야 한다.) 커리큘럼 또한 다른 대학과는 다르게 매우 빡빡하게 짜여 있다. 다른 미대에서는 3학년 정도에 할 수업을 1학년에 한다. 기본 드로잉 수업을 앞에 몰고 바로 디자인, 모델링 수업등을 컴퓨팅 작업을 통해 들어가는 것을 배운다.과제량에 대해 좀 더 자세하게 설명하자면, 하나의 프로젝트는 3주 단위로 구성되며 매 주 단계별로 과제를 채점한다. 전체 학년의 평균은 C-로 고정이며 (각 강의실에서 70% 가 (D+ ~ C- 를 받는다.) 현업에서 일을 하다 온것이 아닌 이상 B+ 이상을 받는것은 불가능 하다고 보는게 적절하지 싶다. Computer Animation, Game Art, Motion Design, Virtual Reality Development 이렇게 총 4개의 전공이 STEM (Science Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) 전공으로 분류 되어 있으며, 모두 동일한 CPI 코드를 사용한다.
애니메이션 전공과 게임아트 전공의 졸업 난이도는 극악이며,

위 경우 영구 제적 되며, 4번째 사유의 경우 discipline 로 분류되어 다른 학교로 편입 또한 불가능 하다 봐야 하며, 이 경우 사실 대부분의 학교들은 매우 엄격하게 제적처리 한다. 하지만 학교의 분위기가 매우 경쟁적이다 보니, 매년 이러한 케이스가 발생하기는 한다.두개 이상의 'F' 를 받았을 경우

보통 본과에서 패스를 하지 못한 경우 Visual Development 전공으로 전과를 하게 되는데 그 이유는 학년을 유지하면서 전과를 할 수 있기 때문이다. 일러스트과의 경우도 만만치 않은데, 그 이유는 본과에서 전과를 한 인원들 대부분이 캘리포니아 예술학교(칼아츠) Character Animation 전공을 목표로 했던 친구들이 대부분이기 때문이다. 실제로 일러스트 과에서 디즈니로 인턴을 나가기도 한다.
Computer Animation, Game Art, Illustration 전공의 1학년 수업은 MEDA Courses로 묶어서 진행하며, 매주 강의실에서 한명 이상씩 없어지는 기적을 볼 수 있다. 하다하다 다른 분야 예를 들어 컴퓨터 공학 석사 (Master of Science), 경영학 석사 (Master of Art, Master of Business Administration), Painting, Ceramic (Master of Fine Art) 학위 취득자를 동기로 보는 경우도 많다. 관련 업계에서 일을 하다 온 경우는 더 많이 볼 수 있다.
5. 학위
학교의 대표적인 전공으로는 3D 애니메이션, 일러스트레이션, 게임아트가 있고, 우리나라에서 학사에 해당하는 BFA(Bachelor of Fine Arts)와 BA(Bachelor of Arts)학위를 부여한다.6. 커리어
이렇게 졸업 난이도가 지랄 맞은 이유는 학교의 취업율과 초기 연봉에 있다. 매년 미국내 100개 이상의 기업이 학교에 찿아와 취업 설명회를 진행하며, 대표적으로 구글, 디즈니, 마이크로소프트, 픽사, 드림웍스, 블리자드, 액티비전 등이 있다. 매년 겨울 방학동안 학생들은 CPT를 나갈 수 있으며 여러 관련된 기업들에서 인턴쉽 경험을 쌓을 수 있다.매년 2명 이상이 디즈니, xbox로 인턴을 나가며 학교에서 가장 유명한 테크니컬 아트 분야의 경우 초봉 100,000 ~ 150,000 USD 정도로 시작하게 된다.
7. 입학
생각보다 많은 한국 사람들이 입학을 알아보고 있다는 사실에 놀라며 서술해 보자면, 애니메이션과 입학난이도는 쉽지 않다. 한국에서 미술대학을 다니다 온 경우도 많고 (이 경우에는 학점 인정을 위해서는 World Education Services (WES)의 리포트가 필요하다.), 그와 반대로 재수를 하지 않고 바로 오는 경우도 있다. 성적은 거의 보지 않고, 장학금 정도에만 영향을 미치는 것 같다. 10,000 USD의 장학금을 제공하는 Dean's Scholarship은 심심치 않게 볼 수 있다. 유지 조건은 평균학점 2.5 이상이다.애니메이션, 게임아트, 일러스트, 모션디자인 전공의 경우 입학도 치열하고, 졸업도 매우 어렵다. 하지만 그림의 화풍이 RISD 처럼 아카데믹한 스타일은 아니며 1학년 입학의 경우 life drawing을 주로 다루는 것을 좋아하는 경향이 있는 것 같다. 인물을 그린 그림이 있어야 하고, 아이에 스케치북 하나에 크로키, 드로잉, 아카데믹 드로잉 으로 그린 인물을 동영상으로 제출 하는 것도 고려해 볼 법하다.
애니메이션 전공의 지원자의 경우 상당수가 다른 전공으로 입학하는 것을 제안 받는 경우가 있다. 이 경우도 애니메이션과로 전과가 불가능하다.
8. 전공
주로 사용하는 프로그램은 Adobe Photoshop, Maya, Substance Painter, Designer 이다. 모든 프로젝트는 기본적으로 개인이 전부 커버해야 한다.

비교적 Fine Art를 주로 배우며, 드로잉 부터 시작해서 목탄, 과슈 등 페인팅까지 다룬다.

11. 컴퓨터 시설
학교에는 30개 이상의 컴퓨터실이 존재하고, 전공 특성상 매우 높은 컴퓨터 성능을 요구 하기에 시설 또한 매우 잘 되어 있다. 학교 자체에서 NAS서버와 Remote Lab 서버를 운영하며, 학생은 학교 서버의 자원을 이용하여 개인 노트북등에서 작업을 할 수 있다. 이 외에도 입학과 동시에 모든 컴퓨터 프로그램과 컴퓨터 자원을 학생에게 지원해준다.12. 기숙사

Ulla Searing Student CenterStudents in Ulla Searing have in-house access to an array of student resources, including the fitness center, recreation spaces, Outtakes Café, design labs, and Student Life. Each room measures 11x16 ft, and enjoys a private bathroom with shower. Every wing offers large student lounges built for collaboration.
2. The Cove
Located on Whittaker Bayou, The Cove offers singles, doubles, and triples and requires students to have a meal plan. Each double and triple has a private bathroom, and the singles enjoy a half bath and shared hall showers. Outdoor areas are set up for waterside dining, lounging, and manatee spotting!
3. Keating Hall
전부 1인실 기숙사이고, 층별로 공동 화장실을 사용한다 (참고로 각 층은 남녀 혼성이다.)
Students in their third and fourth years at Ringling College are housed in the Ulla Searing Student Center, The Cove, Roy and Susan Palmer Quadrangle, Bayou Village Apartments, Bridge Hall Apartments, 2409 Bradenton Rd, and “Near Campus” Housing. Upper-class student Resident Assistants (RAs) live on each floor of student housing and come up with fun activities for students while ensuring a comfortable and safe living environment. Master's level professionals also live on campus and provide additional support.

6. Roy and Susan Palmer Quadrangle
These apartments are located near our Academic Center and are set up like traditional two bedroom apartments, some with two bathrooms and some with one. Rooms with two bathrooms hold three students, while those with one bathroom serve two. All of these units have full kitchens.
7. Bayou Village Apartments
Located slightly off the main campus, this option is for students who want more independence. The most sought after rooms on campus, each suite is comprised of four singles, two bathrooms, a living room, full kitchen, and patio/balcony.
8. Bridge Hall Apartments
Located across the Whitaker Bayou to the east side of the Bayou Apartments, this is our newest apartment style residence. Most apartments consist of 4 single bedrooms, two bathrooms, living room and full kitchen. Amenities include a pedestrian bridge that connects to the Bayou Village, patio with ping pong, and secure bike storage.
9. 2409 Bradenton Road (formerly Family Housing)
We offer both one bedroom and two bedroom units in this eight unit building near campus. Offering a wonderful view of Whittaker Bayou, this structure is located near the Academic Center and plenty of student resources.
10. 'Near Campus' Houses
Ringling College has been steadily acquiring single family houses in the community surrounding our campus to provide a more independent lifestyle for upper-class students. We renovate buildings as needed and manage them through Residence Life to ensure security and up-to-date facilities. Houses are typically two or three occupancy with both singles and doubles.
11. Goldstein Hall
Goldstein is a state-of-the-art facility built for collaboration. The ground floor offers a student lounge area called The Fishbowl, the mailroom, residence life offices, and a large multipurpose space for student events. Goldstein rooms are double suites connected by a bathroom to another suite. They typically measure 11x16 ft, and each floor is equipped with project rooms for creating large-scale projects.
12. Greensboro Hall
1학년 우선배정 기숙사로 비교적 새로 지은 기숙사이다. 화재경보가 매우 자주 오작동 하여, 새벽에 과제를 하다 건물을 나와야 하는 경우가 발생한다... 건물 자체는 좋다.
