스눕 독의 곡들 중 차트에서 가장 큰 성공을 거둔 곡으로 당대 가장 큰 성공을 거둔 힙합 싱글 중 하나였다. 또한 2000년대 중반 스눕 독의 제 2의 전성기를 대표하는 노래이다.[1] 동시에 2000년대 최고 프로듀서 그룹인 The Neptunes를 대표하는 곡 중 하나이기도 하다. 넵튠스 시절 퍼렐 윌리엄스의 보컬을 들을 수 있다."Drop It Like It's Hot"이란 표현이 이 곡을 통해 처음 유명해 졌다고 아는 사람들이 많으나, 사실은 98년도에 Lil Wayne이 처음 유행시킨 말이다. Lil Wayne이 피쳐링한 쥬브나일의 곡 "Back That Azz Up"에서 릴 웨인은 이 "drop it like it's hot" 플로우를 유행시켰고[2] 스눕 독 역시 이에 영향을 받은 것이다.
2004년 12월 둘째 주에서 넷째 주[3]까지 빌보드 핫 100에서 1위를 기록하였다. 어셔와 앨리샤 키스의 듀엣곡 My Boo의 장기집권을 저지하고 2004년 연말을 장식하게 된 곡이다.
