2. 상세
1975년 데이비드 보위의 9번째 스튜디오 앨범 Young Americans의 마지막 트랙으로 수록되었으며, 싱글로 발매되었다. 앨범의 프로듀싱을 맡았던 존 레논이 공동 작곡과 배킹 보컬로 참여했으며, 데이비드 보위의 첫 빌보드 핫 100 1위 곡이 되었고 1975년 빌보드 핫 100 연말 차트에서 8위에 올랐다. 곡의 스타일은 당시 보위가 관심을 가지고 있었던 블루 아이드 소울, 펑크(Funk) 장르의 곡이다. 당시 유행하던 펑키한 그루브로 대중적인 성공을 거두었다. 흥겨운 내용과는 별개로 곡 자체는 당시 보위의 매니지먼트를 전담하던 토니 데프라이스(Tony DeFries)와의 재정적 불화에서 비롯되었다. 데프라이스는 보위의 투어 정산을 담당하고 있었는데 잘못된 정산으로 보위에게 빚을 안기게 만들었고, 보위는 데프라이스와 결별하며 명성이 사람에게 가져다주는 어두운 부분을 조명하게 되었다.1975년 친분을 쌓게 된 존 레논과의 잼 세션에서 작곡되었다. 보위는 Young Americans 앨범을 위해 74년 소울 투어 라이브에서 자주 커버했던 The Flares의 FootStompin'을 녹음하기로 했는데, 기타 세션인 카를로스 알로마(Carlos Alomar)가 리프를 연습하면서 레논이 원곡과 다른 가사를 흥얼거리기 시작했다. 보위가 프로듀싱을 맡으며 곡이 완성되었다.
1990년 보위는 새 투어와 컴필레이션 앨범의 홍보를 위해 원곡을 새로 리믹스한 Fame '90을 발매했다. 원래는 미국에서 훨씬 더 성공한 Let's Dance가 고려됐지만 비교적 최근에 나온 곡이라는 이유로 기각되었다.
