1998년 발매된 뉴트럴 밀크 호텔의 2집 In the Aeroplane Over the Sea에 5번째 트랙으로 수록된 곡.Two-Headed Boy와 Holland, 1945를 잇는 인스트루멘탈로, 행진곡과 같은 분위기를 띠는 타악과 금관이 특징이다. 원래는 밴드의 금관악기 담당이던 스콧 스필레인이 동명의 영화를 제작 중이던 친구를 위해 만들었다가, 줄리언 코스터의 할머니 집 지하에서 아코디언을 가지고 놀던 도중 완성되었다고 한다.
He’d started writing “The Fool” in Austin as a favor for a friend who was writing a short film of that name and needed a soundtrack. He finished it in Grandma’s basement, while bored and messing around with Julian’s accordion one day.
