Sion의 eigensinn은 미디어, 알고리즘, SNS로 과포화된 시대 속에서 자라난 세대의 감정을 담은 앨범입니다. 자의식에 대한 고찰, 뒤틀린 시대에 대한 비판, 그러면서도 그 시대에 대한 향수를 담은 이 앨범은 정체성 혼란과 자극 과잉 속에 살아가는 현 세대의 이야기를 담아냅니다.
뷰티플노이즈 소속 아티스트 시온(Sion)이 아티스트로서 정체성을 정립한 음악을 들고 온다. 소속사 측은 “오늘(26일) 오후 6시, 시온이 새 EP 『아이겐진(eigensinn)』을 발표한다”라며 “이번 작품 이름이 독일어로 ‘고집, 자기 개성, 자의식’을 뜻하는 만큼 자신만의 음악 전환점을 보여주는 작품”이라고 전했다.
아티스트 측은 이번 EP 『아이겐진』을 두고“처음 음악을 시작했을 땐 내가 무엇을 좋아하는지조차 모른 채 주변의 조언과 반응에 의존했다. 시간이 지나 번아웃이 왔지만, 다양한 음악을 들으며 비로소 내가 추구할 길을 찾았다. 디지코어와 하이퍼팝은 내게 다시 창작의 즐거움을 안겨준 장르였고, 그 배움의 결과물이 이번 작품”이라고 설명했다.
『아이겐진』은 디지털 세대가 겪는 가식과 공허함, 정보 과부하를 주제로 삼았다. 귀를 강하게 자극하는 전자적 질감 위에 선율적인 요소와 실험적인 구성을 교차. 이전보다 더 직관적이고 밀도 있는 음악을 완성했다.
아울러 시온은 “하이퍼팝과 팝의 경계가 무너졌다고 생각한다. 그런 생각에 따라 신스팝, 일렉트로닉 댄스 음악, 슈게이즈를 접목하며 폭을 확장했다”라며 “스스로의 한계치를 보기 위해 모든 곡의 작사, 작곡, 편곡을 도맡아했다”고 말했다.
시온이 자라온 2010년대의 미감을 담아낸 시각적 요소도 주목할 점. EP와 연계한 커버 설정, 그리고 이를 바탕으로 제작 예정인 게임 등은 ‘아이겐진’의 세계관을 강화한다.
