1. 개요

로켓단 삼인방 로사의 마자용.

2. 상세

공식적으로 로켓단 3인방의 3인에 포함되지는 않지만 사실상 4번째 멤버라고 해도 될 정도로 비중이 높다. 팬덤에서는 로켓단 3인방을 마자용을 포함해 사실상 '로켓단 4인방'처럼 취급할 때가 많다.

성별은 수컷이다. 평소에는 몬스터볼 안에 들어가 있다가 자기를 불러내지 않았는데도 로켓단의 대화 도중 갑자기 볼에서 "마자~용"이라고 하면서 튀어나와 맞장구를 치는 기믹으로, 등장 이후 로켓단이 예의 등장대사를 하면 마지막으로 이 녀석이 지멋대로 몬스터볼에서 튀어나와 "마자~용!"하고 울면서 마무리하는 게 정석이다. 그리고 빡친 로사가 "마자용, 너 내가 멋대로 나오지 말랬지!"[3]라고 하면서 다시 몬스터 볼에 넣어 버리는걸로 마무리. 나중에 가면 아예 마자용이 튀어나오자마자 바로 몬스터볼에 넣어버려서 '마자~' 에서 끊겨버리기도 하며, 그냥 마자용이 튀어나오든 말든 이제 신경을 안 쓰기도 한다. 게다가 로켓단이 리타이어할때마다 하는 "불쌍한 내 인생~" 대사에서도 "마자~용!" 하고 피처링을 넣어서 안 그래도 웃긴 장면을 더 웃기게 만든다. 게다가 무인편에서 마자용이 합류한 초기에서는 로켓단이 별이 되어 날아가고 임의의 장소에 떨어졌을때 혼자 좋은 위치에만 떨어지고 웃는 표정으로 곤경에 빠진 로켓단을 바라보는 개그 장면이 여러번 나오다가 어느 순간부터는 마자용도 같이 곤경에 빠지는 모습으로 등장하고있다.

3. 작중 행적

원래는 어떤 엑스트라 남자아이의 포켓몬이었다. 이 아이가 사는 마을에서는 1년에 한 번 씩 포켓몬을 교환하는 풍습이 있고, 마침 자기도 마자용을 교환하고 싶어하고 있었다. 그런데 에피소드 도중 로사가 무심코 내루미의 몬스터볼을 놔둔 곳이 하필 포켓몬 교환장치였고, 그것 때문에 마자용의 몬스터볼과 바뀌어버렸다. 로사는 나중에 내루미를 꺼내서 지우 일행을 공격하려다가 뜬금없이 마자용이 나오자 그제서야 바뀐 걸 깨닫고 당황했다. 한편 그 아이는 로사가 정식으로 교환해준 줄 알고 있었고 내루미도 마음에 들어서 좋아하고 있었다.

어쨌든 그렇게 뜬금없이 로사의 포켓몬이 되었는데, 처음에는 자기가 먼저 공격하는 포켓몬이 아니라고 하자 '악당 포켓몬이 먼저 공격하지 않으면 어쩌라는 거야'라며 절규했다. 하지만 반격에 특화되어있고 나름 강하다는 걸 알자 놀라워하며 그래도 잘 써먹기 시작했다. 능력도 능력인데 표정과 성격 덕분에 개그 캐릭터로 활용하기도 좋아서 첫 등장 이후 DP까지 사실상 나옹과 함께 로켓단의 고정 멤버 중 하나였을 정도로 큰 인기를 자랑한다. 의외로 아보크나 또도가스 등보다도 더 활약하고 반사 공격으로 지우 일행에게 피해도 더 많이 입혔다.

더군다나 게임판에서는 카운터도 미러코트도 일단 상대의 공격을 맞아 대미지를 받은 다음 그걸 튕겨내는 방식인데, 애니판에서는 마치 대미지를 입지 않고 고스란히 되돌려주는 듯한 모습이라 훨씬 더 유용하다. 심지어 프리져의 냉동빔이나 기라티나의 섀도볼 같은 전설의 포켓몬의 공격도 방어한다!

다만 그렇다고 완전히 사기인 건 아니고, 마자용이 조금이라도 당황하거나 받은 공격 횟수가 너무 많을 경우에는 끝내 튕겨내지 못하고 대미지를 입고 기절하는 모습이 나와서 한계가 있다. 혹은 어쩌면 피해를 받는 묘사가 제대로 되진 않을 뿐 튕겨낼 때마다 반동으로 마자용도 계속 대미지를 입기는 하는 것일수도 있다. 추가로 애니에서는 마자용이 튕겨낸 공격도 반드시 맞으리라는 법은 없어서 그냥 피해버리기도 한다.

그래도 이 정도면 차라리 마자용만 쓰면 좋지 않을까 싶지만 위에서 언급했듯이 마자용이 로켓단의 특성과는 맞지 않은 것이 문제. 마자용은 반격에 특화되어 있기 때문에 남이 먼저 공격해주지 않으면 아무것도 못하는 포켓몬인데, 로켓단은 매번 남들을 먼저 공격해야하는 처지다. 이 때문에 전투에서 써먹기 난감한 면이 크다. 그래서 보통은 로사가 선봉으로 내보낸 포켓몬이 패배하고 나면 후발주자로 나온다.

로켓단에 합류 후에는 '로사의 포켓몬 A'라기에는 아무렇지도 않게 볼 밖으로 자주 튀어나오는 탓에 사실상 4인조 취급을 받아 로켓단 삼인방이랑 같이 식탁에서 식사도 하고, 음식도 같이 나눠 먹고, 잠도 같이 자고 옷도 같이 입고, 변장도 같이 한다.[4] 물론 첫 합류 후엔 민폐 기질이 강해 로사도 골머리를 앓고 로켓단에서도 '저녀석이 온 이후 되는게 없다' 라며 욕도 많이 먹었다.[5] 포켓몬의 손금을 본 로사 말에 의하면 귀찮은 녀석이지만 명줄은 길다고... 역시 로켓단이 천직에 맞은 포켓몬일지도 모른다.

금은편 194화[6]에서 마자용이 피카츄를 가둔 상자의 열쇠를 소지한채 폭포에 떠내려가는 바람에 한지우 일행은 물론 로켓단까지도 분주하게 뛰어다니는데, 해당 에피소드의 제목이 원래는 일본판 명칭인 '소난스'를 가타카나와 히라가나로 한 번씩 표기한 말장난이었는데 한국에서는 '마자용, 맞긴 뭘 맞아!''라는 가히 초월 번역급으로 나왔으며 로켓단 3인방이 아주 제대로 츳코미 거는 말투로 내레이션을 해줘서 더 리얼하다.

AG 146화에서는 지우 일행과 함께 있던 킬리아에게 반해 프러포즈까지 했는데, 에스퍼 포켓몬들과 고스트 포켓몬들의 갈등을 이용한 로켓단에게 킬리아를 포함한 에스퍼 포켓몬들과 피카츄가 납치되자 주인의 말을 무시하고 포켓몬들을 구해준다.[7] 하지만 제대로 열받은 에스퍼 포켓몬들의 공격에 휘말려 다시 하늘로... 여담으로 이 때 킬리아의 반응을 보면 본인도 마자용이 마음에 들었던 듯 하다.[8]

BW에선 레귤러에서 빠졌다가 XY에서 재등장해[9][10] 피카츄를 발라버리는 파워업된 모습을 보여주었다[11]. 8화에서는 로켓단의 사기를 위해 일명 마자용쇼에서 대활약. 로사의 기묘한 솜씨로 상상을 초월하는 코디와 목소리 연기를 선보였다. 이후 배틀에서도 10만볼트와 머드숏을 번번히 가로막으며 대활약! 8화의 숨은 주역이라 할 만하다. 그리고 11화에서는 중간 아이캐치 소개를 담당하여 여러 번 울음소리를 외치는 것이 웃음 포인트. 그리고 55화에서는 오랜만에 마자용쇼를 또 선보였다.[12]

극장판에서도 여전히 맹활약. 특히 후파 광륜의 초마신에서는 기라티나의 섀도볼도 뒤로 좀 밀려나기만 했을 뿐 로켓단의 지탱을 받아 성공적으로 튕겨내며 건재함을 증명했다.

XY 63화에서 무인편 이후 최초로 주인인 로사와 더블 주역을 맡게 되었다. 첫눈에 반한 의사에게 애인이 있다는 사실을 알게 된 로사가 로켓단에 복귀할 때, 의사의 암컷 마자용과 눈이 맞은 자신의 마자용의 행복을 빌어주고자 놓고오기로 한다. 로사는 단신으로 로켓단에 합류하고, 포켓몬 헌터의 공격으로 위기에 처하게 된다. 그 때 암컷 마자용과 이별하고 로사를 따라온 마자용이 로켓단 및 지우 일행을 카운터로 구해주는데 그 모습은 폭풍간지 그자체다.[13] 초반에 로사와 마자용이 로이와 나옹, 호바귀의 이름을 외치는데 잘 들어보면 마자용이 상당히 인간의 말을 잘한다. 국내 더빙 기준으로 이로치 나목령이 나오는 에피소드에서는 랄토스로 변장하는데 랄토스의 울음소리를 냈다. 참고로 놀랍게도 이 에피소드에서 포켓몬 헌터가 꺼낸 거대코뿌리의 뿔드릴을 카운터로 받아쳐내는 위업을 세운다(!)[14]

그리고 후에 XY&Z에서는 플레어단 아케비의 크리만의 용의파동을 튕겨내는 업적을 이뤄냈다.

썬&문 알로라리그에서 상성상 유리한 로이의 시마사리와 배틀한다. 참고로 상술했듯 로사는 기술을 지시하지 않고, 마자용, 어떻게든 막아!로 기술을 대체했다(...) 카운터와 미러코트로 가시대포/오물폭탄을 모두 반사, 하지만 두 기술 다 튕겨내는 용도로만 쓰여서 유효타 없는 싸움을 이어나가고 결국 둘 다 지친다. 하지만 투지를 불태우기 시작한 시마사리가 연속으로 가시대포를 난사하여 당황하며 카운터로 반사한다. 그러나, 공격을 버티지 못하고 폭발과 함께 날라간 후 쓰러진다.

참고로 볼에서 튀어나오며 마자~용! 하는게 너무 오래 나와서인지 이제는 마자~용! 할때마다 일단 볼에서 나오는 소리부터 나는데 심지어 DP에서 피카츄가 마자용 흉내를 낼때도 피~카!할때 몬스터볼 소리가 났다.

그리고 나옹이랑 많이 있어서 그런지 작중 단 두번이긴 하지만 인간의 말을 했다. 전술한 XY 63화도 그 중 하나.

단점이 있다면 다리가 짧아서 도망칠 때 제일 뒤처진다. 사족 보행이지만 다리가 너무 짜리몽땅하고 뭉툭한 게 문제다. 인게임에서도 마자용의 스피드는 33으로 매우 느린 것을 감안하면 현실반영인 듯. 다만 초기에는 작화보정 때문인지 가끔 지우 일행보다 빨리 달리는(...) 장면이 드물게 나왔다.

포켓몬스터 노려라 포켓몬 마스터에서도 로켓단 삼총사와 함께 완결편까지도 꾸준히 등장한다. 지우 시리즈의 마지막화까지도 로켓단의 핵심 멤버로 등장했다는 점에서 로켓단 트리오의 실질적인 4번째 멤버라는 입지를 확고히 하였다.

4. 기술 배치

작 중 나옹만큼의 임팩트는 없지만 이 마자용도 참으로 대단한 포켓몬. 일단 일련의 행동들을 보면 로사의 말은 그냥 듣는 둥 마는 둥의 반응이라 뱃지 없는 상태의 교환된 포켓몬인 티가 팍팍 나지만 이 녀석의 놀라운 점은 상대의 공격을 보고 스스로 물리기인지 특수기인지 파악해서 카운터와 미러코트를 골라 써서 대처한다는 것이다. 마자용이 주역인 에피소드에서 메타몽을 키우는 조연 트레이너가 이걸 눈치채고 대단한 녀석이라 평가했고, 그때까지 마자용의 기술은 카운터 뿐인 줄만 알았던 로사[15]가 미러코트도 지시하자 오히려 역으로 혼란에 빠져버린다. 결국 그 이후로는 로사도 그냥 "마자용. 부탁한다!"라면서 기술선택을 완전히 마자용에게 맡겨버리는 모습을 보인다. 본격 트레이너보다 똑똑한 포켓몬.[16] 심지어 망가진 메카 나옹을 수리하기까지 하는 등 지능이 아주 비상하다.
