앨범에 치중하던 DMX는 앨범 자체의 성적이나 판매량은 아주 높았지만 싱글에는 큰 욕심을 보이지 않았었다. 그럼에도 노래 자체의 인기로 빌보드 R&B/힙합 차트에서 8위, 빌보드 핫 100에서 27위를 기록했고 2000년 빌보드 R&B/힙합 연말 차트에서 30위, 2000년 빌보드 핫 100 연말 차트에서 71위에 올랐다.5. 한국에서
2000년 발매된 곡임에도 불구하고 당시 유행하던 힙합 스타일과는 다르게 매우 신나는 구조를 취하고 있어 의외로 오랫동안 선전했다. 국내에 힙합클럽 붐이 일기 시작한 2002년부터 현재까지 힙합클럽을 표방하는 클럽치고 이 곡을 안틀어 준 곳이 없을 정도. 그만큼 사람들 귀에 딱지가 앉았다는 이야기[1]가 될 수도 있겠다.때문에 일부 힙합 매니아들은 이 곡의 도입부에 배치된 나팔소리가 들리자마자 귀를 막고선 "아! 과거맥미후마뫄 또 나와!" 라며, 불만을 내뱉지만 정작 그렇게 말하면서도 몸은 춤을 추고 있는 츤데레틱한 상황을 연출한다. 어떻게 보면 굉장한 마력이 있는듯.
참고로 과거맥미후뫄뫄의 원래 가사는 Y'all gon' make me lose my mind인데, dctribe에서 "과거맥미후마뫄"로 듣고 읽기 시작하면서 이 이름으로 자리잡았다.

드래곤볼 Z의 극장판 몇몇 장면을 편집해 네티즌들이 만든 영상으로 이 곡을 처음 접한 사람들도 더러 있다.[2] 해외에서도 이 영상이 꽤 돌아다녔는지 유튜브를 보면 어릴 때 이 영상을 본 기억이 있다는 리플이 종종 보인다.
