1. 개요

Intelligent Munition Systems

미국의 텍스트론 시스템즈에서 개발한 지능형 지뢰 시스템. 전술적 위치에 설치만 하면 각종 부품을 살포, 적 보병과 차량을 탐지, 식별하여 공격할 수 있다. 기존의 지뢰처럼 매설/살포 후 분실하거나 잊어버릴 염려가 없고, 정확하게 적군만 노려 공격 가능하다는 것이 큰 장점. 실전 사례는 이라크 전쟁이 유일하다.

현존하는 병기 중 거미 지뢰와 가장 유사한 물건이라고 자주 회자되곤 했었다. 그런데 미국이 차세대 지뢰의 실험 모델로 XM-7을 공개. 게다가 이름이 스파이더 마인이다.

2. 구성

외형이 상당히 독특한데, 하나의 IMS 안에 방출 모듈, 3개의 센서 노드, 3개의 이펙트 모듈, C2 노드가 있으며 별도의 랩탑 형태의 통제기기가 있다.

방출 모듈 : 다른 부품들을 장착하고 있다가 압축 가스로 발사하는 기본 틀.

이펙트 모듈 : 적을 향해 발사체를 날려 파괴하는 부품. 16개의 대인용 산탄과 하나의 철갑 관통탄이 들어있다.

센서 노드 : 적을 포착하는 부품으로, 음향감지, 진동감지, 자기장 감지가 가능하다. 음향은 600m까지 탐지 가능하다.

C2 노드 : 이펙트 모듈과 센서 노드에게서 신호를 주고 받으며 종합 데이터를 통제 컴퓨터로 전송한다.

3. 운영 방법

먼저 IMS를 전술적 위치에 설치한다. IMS 하나는 장병 2명이 들어 나를 수 있다. 통제 컴퓨터로 지시하면 방출 모듈이 자동으로 총 7개의 부속을 발사한다. C2 노드는 가장 가까이 떨어지며, 좀 더 멀리 이펙트 모듈 3개가 분산되어 떨어진다. 센서 노드는 가장 멀리 날아가 진동감지 센서를 땅에 박아 넣는다.

최초 설치 후 각 부속은 C2 노드와 교감하면서 각각 위치와 상황을 알린다. C2 노드는 이 데이터를 정리해 통제 컴퓨터로 보고하고, 적 감지 태세로 들어간다.

센서 노드는 음향감지로 최대 600m 범위의 적을 발견할 수 있다. 음향감지로 적을 발견한 후 좀 더 근접하면 진동감지로 적의 무게와 좀 더 자세한 위치를 알 수 있다. 더욱 근접하면 자기장 감지로 적의 크기와 종류까지 탐지할 수 있다. 이렇게 탐지된 데이터는 C2 노드로 보내지며, C2 노드는 각 센서 노드들이 보내준 데이터를 수집해 차량 종류, 규모 등의 정보와 삼각법으로 적의 정확한 위치, 이동방향, 속도 등을 연산한 정보를 통제 컴퓨터로 보낸다.

통제관이 피아 식별 후 공격 명령을 내리면 C2 노드가 가장 적과 가까운 이펙트 모듈에게 공격 명령을 내리며, 이펙트 모듈은 발사체를 수직으로 발사한다. 이 발사체는 살짝 기울어진 상태로 초당 30번 회전하는데, 점점 기울임 각도가 커진다. 측면에 부착된 센서가 발사체의 움직임에 따라 점점 커지는 나선형으로 근처의 열신호를 포착하고 발사체의 높이를 계산한다. 그러다가 발사체의 폭발부분이 적과 직선상으로 정렬되면 격발한다.

격발 시 적의 장갑차량을 뚫는 철갑 관통탄을 중심으로 16개의 대인살상용 산탄이 원형으로 발사된다. MEFP탄두를 사용. 재블린처럼 장갑 차량의 비교적 취약한 상부를 노리는 탑 다운 어택을 하는 셈. 다만 소형이기에 그다지 위력이 센 편은 아니라 전차의 경우 완파는 불가능하며, 장갑 차량 정도는 충분히 무력화 가능하다는 게 생산자 측의 주장.

대보병전시엔 발사체가 발사된 지 얼마 안 되어 바로 격발하여 사방으로 산탄을 뿌리는 식으로 바뀐다.

IMS를 100m 단위로 여러 개 설치하면 서로 연동되는 기능이 있다.

4. 매체에서의 IMS

디스커버리 채널의 미래의 무기들 시즌2 9화 '영리한 파괴자'에서도 다루고 있다.

콜 오브 듀티: 모던 워페어 3의 공격 패키지 스트라이크 체인으로 등장한다. 대보병 모드로 발동하여 접근하는 적을 자동으로 사살한다. 실제 물건과는 좀 달리 방출 모듈에서 이펙트 모듈이 바로 뛰어올라 근접한 적에게 폭발을 날리는 식으로, 그냥 '근접 지뢰 4개 묶음'이다. 데미지가 강한 편이라 일단 튀어오르면 트로피 시스템을 제외, 뭘 해도 죽는다.[1]

콜 오브 듀티: 고스트에서도 등장한다. 익스팅션 모드 때 나름 유용하다.
