스웨덴의 프로그레시브 메탈 밴드 오페스의 5번째 정규 앨범. 오페스 최고의 명반으로 평가받는 앨범이다.
앨범명 "Blackwater Park"는 1970년대에 활동한 동명의 독일 프로그레시브 록 밴드의 이름을 따온 것이다.
프로그레시브 록 밴드 포큐파인 트리의 프론트맨인 스티븐 윌슨이 전곡 제작과 프로듀싱에 참여하였다.
미카엘 오케르펠트와 스티븐 윌슨의 친분은 한 기자가 스티븐 윌슨과의 인터뷰에서 오페스의 4번째 정규 앨범 "Still Life"를 추천하며 미카엘의 이메일 주소를 준 것으로부터 시작된다. 이 앨범에 감명을 받은 스티븐은 미카엘에게 앨범에 대한 찬사를 담은 메일을 보냈고, 이후 두 사람은 런던에서 만나 같이 앨범을 제작할 것을 결정한다.
스티븐 윌슨은 피아노, 기타 등의 세션 참여와 전곡 프로듀싱을 맡은 것 외에도 "Bleak", "Harvest", "The Funeral Portrait", "The Drapery Falls" 트랙에서 클린 보컬과 백 보컬을 맡았으며, 믹싱과 마스터링에도 참여하였다. 이러한 공동 작업은 서로의 음악적 스타일에 큰 영향을 미치게 되었으며, 2010년 미카엘과 스티븐이 프로젝트 밴드 Storm Corrosion를 결성하는 계기가 된다.
앨범 커버 아트워크는 Still life 이후 오페스의 모든 앨범 아트워크에 참여한 트래비스 스미스의 작품이다.
